Mr. Sun
Since we finally jumped from Winter to Summer, let’s discuss our fave person “Mr. Sun” ... Wait, should we sing the song here? Why not!?
On the count of 1, 2, ... Oh Mr Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on meeeee!... YASSSS!!!!
Ok - back to it - With summer being here we all can’t wait to catch that bomb tan, wear our cute sundresses, sandals and of course our bikinis while taking hella pics on the beach. Yes, it feels great to lay out in the Sun; but let’s be honest here, Mr. Sun is not our friend.
Yes, I am super guilty of laying in the Sun with not an ounce of sunscreen on. I would go on my layovers, change into my swimsuit as soon as I got to the hotel, find the chair that was getting the most sun and I would lay under Mr. Sun for hours until I got that nice and glowy tan! This is also a big chance of how I contracted Lupus!
Lupus can be triggered by the UVB and UVA rays that come from Ultraviolet light (UV). Some symptoms are lupus rash (butterfly), fatigue, joint pain and internal organ swelling.
Since my diagnosis of Lupus you won’t catch me sitting out in the sun without sunscreen on with SPF of 70 on my entire body, a hat AND a cover up . Yeah, this might not be sexy, but hey - my health is way more important and let’s be serious you get better pics when the sun goes down anyway. If I do plan to wear makeup (which is barely), I still put on some sunscreen underneath before I apply the makeup or I use a tinted moisturizer that has sunscreen.
This isn’t just for females or children, but males should be wearing sunscreen as well - even if you don’t plan to get that much sun - the sun does NOT discriminate! If the sun is out grab some sunscreen and NO you can’t put on sunscreen with an SPF of 30 plus some with an SPF of 50 and think you’re getting 80 SPF coverage - it doesn’t work like that, lol.
So please, when you’re heading out for your next day party, beach vacay or just cruising in your hood - put on some sunscreen with a high SPF, that’s hypoallergenic and provides broad spectrum protection blocking UVB and UVA rays. Don’t just cover your face make sure you’re putting a thick layer on your neck, arms and legs. Anything that’s going to be exposed to the sun especially between the hours of 10am - 2pm.
Don’t you want your skin to flourish!?
